A 6 month old can eat whatever we eat. We started weaning at 6 months and dd just ate what we did (obv no honey or nuts). They need to learn to move things around their mouths with their tongue, chew and swallow. She may gag, this is normal and she hasn't started to choke. Stay close and let her have a go.

DD3's first food was a toast soldier. I have a video of her eating it and she loved it. As long as it is a large piece, about 3-4" long and you have cut the crust off she should be fine. She will probably chew pieces off and move them around her mouth for ages. By the time she4 goes to swallow they will be all mushy. She could gag but she won't choke
