Plates and bowls and things

I'm going to start weaning my son after Christmas probably (he'll be 6 months in January). I've been looking at bowls, plates, cutlery, etc, and just wondering if anyone has any recommendations. Are they all much of a muchness or are there particularly good makes/material/features? I'll probably be doing a mixture of spoon feeding (yogurts and cereals and things) and finger foods. Should I stop overthinking it and just buy some pretty coloured ones?

I preferred these ones.

They don't need cutleries until much later. I would get a set of weaning spoons. Because they are shallow and plastic. You put the mush you serve your LO in your normal bowls and plate. Finger foods are giving on the high chair tray.

You might find food pots useful if you plan to take your homemade food out.

I bought this for my DS - it's nice stuff, terrific value and comes in nice colours!

The above weaning kit looks rather good, I wish I'd seen it. We have some of their lidded tubs (the blue ones) for out and about, they are good so long as you close them properly.

Spoons - shallow and plastic
Bowls - IKEA small plastic ones, can go in micro/fridge/freezer (with cling film on)
Some bowls/tubs with lids for out and about
Small beaker/open cup or glass
Coveral www.amazon.co.uk/BabyBjorn-Eat-Play-Smock-Blue/dp/B0016ML7V2/ref=sr_1_20?s=baby&ie=UTF8&qid=1322258065&sr=1-20 these are fab and can be shoved in the machine, we have two which we rotate. Use for painting once bigger.

If you are going to freeze things (purees or meals) www.amazon.co.uk/Annabel-Karmel-Food-Cube-Tray/dp/B004EWG9D2/ref=sr_1_2?s=baby&ie=UTF8&qid=1322257736&sr=1-2 these are great.

Enjoy weaning, its good fun.

I loved the baby bjorn plate in the shape of a clover leaf. Loved it. It doesn't slide around, it can go in the microwave, and no pictures do you can't grow out of it. My dd is 8 and we still use ours.
