Hi all my LO is 5 and half months so have just recently started weaning, he happily has breakfast and bottle at 8.30 which sets us a routine for the day as he will then have a bottle at 12.30-1 then will offer him some purée after tea time feed at 4.30-5 just to experience a new flabour/texture etc. He is happy to try the food once it is in his mouth and he rolls it around and has a good taste however its a little struggle to get the food in- is this normal to start with?
Also he is so tired by 7 and ready for bed that he is now not taking a good night time feed which is resulting in him waking at 4-4.30 in the morn hence why he is not ready for breakfast any earlier.
Am I worrying for no reason or any advice on how to get a better routine/feed in place now?

Seems quite normal. At first the feeds are not for calories so much as flavor/texture introduction.

I used to go with 'real food' first at every meal (3x a day and 1 snack) and then the milky feed after they seemed to get bored with the food. If you're doing purees just shovel it in until it starts coming out faster... if you're doing finger foods just give them a half hour or until they are very obviously bored and then move them on to the milk.
Overtime they start eating more real foods and the milk drinking slowly decreases.
I'd say if you've got waking at 4ish then try waking babes up at your own bedtime to offer a 'top up' feed to help you get all the thru the night and to a 'proper' breakfast time.

Just to give you a different perspective! I tend to give him his milk first at least an hour before his "solids". I dont want to fill him up on food at the moment as his milk is still his main source of nutrition.

My DS is now 7mo and this is his routine.....

first bottle at 7.15am ish
breakfast at 8.15 ish
nxt bottle 11.30
lunch 1.00 ish
afternoon bottle 3.30 (he is taking less and less at this feed)
dinner 5.15 ish
bedtime bottle 6.45

(He was getting a dream up until 6 weeks ago. This was at 10pm, which similar to what bebemoo was suggesting)
Even though his meals are small he seems to be enjoying the different tastes and textures and his milk keeps him sleeping through at the mo.

Good luck

Thank you for advice...LO has sort of set his own routine now and is generally having bottle first thing (we've gone back to having a few full nights and bottle around 6-7!!) So offering breakfast when all dressed and ready then waiting for him to ask for next bottle which has been mainly 11ish then bottle again at 3ish then tea at 5-5.30, he has then been ready for bed time bottle at 7! Let's hope this suits him better and will gradually increase to lunch when he is ready for more.
As you've said he us only eating small portions but has a good taste and exploring different textures!!
