Ds always ate virtually everything when he was having purees and textured mush, but now I am trying to move him on to 'proper' food I am having a nightmare. He will happily swallow rice cakes, fish in breadcrumbs, potato, baby biscuits, yoghurt and bread but everything else either gets chewed for a while and spat out or spat out straight away. I have tried all manner of fruits and veg, cheese, ham, chicken, you name it. What's weird is that some foods, like ham or pasta, he will keep sticking his hand out for more after spitting it out! I don't understand.

Thing is, sometimes when he keeps rejecting all veg and fruit I worry he isn't getting enough nutrition and end up giving him some mushed up.

Has anyone got any clue why he is spitting things out, or any advice?

I would just keep at it and keep offering it. Don't make a fuss if he spits it out. I wouldn't be mashing anything up for him at all at this age.

He is probably just learning about the food and different textures. Dd started pulling food out of her mouth at about this age even though she had previously been a very clean eater!

I put fruit purée into her Ready Brek still as another way for her to get some fruit too.

Try not to worry, it probably won't last long :)

No idea, because I'm exactly the same position but 14 month dd not ds!!! I will watch this thread. Some days she eats virtually nil, but ate everything as a baby too. And won't let me feed her so can't resort to mush...
