Cow's milk with cereal - causing rash?

My PFB is 6 3/4 months old and has been having 1/2 a weetabix with whole cow's milk for breakfast the last three days (prior to that I'd been using BM until a GP friend said whole milk would be fine with cereal). For the past 3 weeks she's been having whole milk yoghurt and cheese with no apparent problems.

Last night I noticed a dry rash on her back, so I've held off on the milk and cereal this morning. Is this a temporary situation until her stomach matures and I can re-introduce it a few months?

I don't want to pester doctor friend with questions via phone or text and it might be a few weeks until I see her in person.

My dd used to have an intolerance to dairy - it would give her a rash if it came into contact with her skin.

I asked several health visitors about it and the advice was always the same. They said it wasn't an allergy as she had shown no reaction to my dairy consumption via breastmilk. They said to keep giving it to her, keep an eye on it and she would eventually build up a tolerance.

I was dubious but she is one tomorrow and never gets it any more :)

I live in the US and here the advice is no cows milk till 12 months old. Before then you can use cows milk that has been cooked (e.g., in porridge or white sauce), or dairy products like yoghurt, cheese etc. Supposedly young babies can't tolerate the lactose and it can irritate the stomach lining, but if milk is cooked or processed then the lactose is changed and it's ok. So, not sure if that could cause a rash, but maybe better to wait anyway? I use formula or expressed bm for cereal instead. Hope it clears up!

Just wanted to say that I did not cut out dairy while BF but DS has severe allergy to dairy so they are not mutually exclusive. Eczema-like symptoms including rashes are often caused by milk. Advice in the UK is also not to give cow's milk until 1 year. I'd add formula to his cereal or EBM if you're BF and see if his skin clears. Good luck :)
