Baby eating sushi

I'm posting this in Parenting too, as I need an answer quickish so I want more traffic!

I wonder if anyone can tell me whether it's safe for my baby to eat raw fish in sushi? She's 6 and a half months, we've been doing blw which has been going really well. I'm making sushi/onigiri tonight, and I'm not sure whether it would be ok for DD to have some of the salmon.

If no one can help, I'll probably stay safe and just give her some with avocado in instead.

I did a google search, found lots of people saying they wouldn't give raw fish to a baby, but I'm not clear why not i.e. whether there's a medical reason or whether it's just convention.

I think she might find it hard to digest. IMO I would play it safe and go with avocado. Or you could cook the salmon and take it from there?.

I am from the foreign school of weaning so mine had fresh boiled fish from about 7 mths with veg...

I did blw and mine dd (now 2.5) had sushi- no problems probably from 7/8 months. Obviously freshness of fish is all important but we had no problems.

If she could get it in her mouth then she got to eat it. She loves sushi, smoke salmon so I'd go for it! Grin

I'd play it safe too and have fillings like egg, avocado, cucumber and cream cheese.

Thanks for your responses. Dinner time is here, so I think I will go for the avocado this time, and maybe use smoked salmon or poached salmon for her next time.
