Hi, my ds turned 1 on wed 3rd, and i feel he's not eating enough finger foods, i give him toast in the mornings and he just doesnt eat any of it, its just play things to chuck on the floor, i was then having to put bits in his mouth to make sure he was eating something, but stopped this when the hv said 'to leave him to it', and now i just keep picking it up and giving it him back, but after 30-45 mins i end up chucking it all away, he then has his 7oz bottle, do you think he knows he's going to get his bottle and so he's not bothered about eating his toast, or am i being to optomistic thinking he's at the stage where he can eat finger foods.

we dont eat any meals altogether as the time we get in is just easier to gets my ds's dinner and we then eat when he's in bed. We have discussed trying to make more effort and all eat together but dont really no what i can do that we can all eat together

What else does he have? Just toast and milk at breakfast time? What about spoonfed food? Does he eat cereal?

When mine were this age they would have the milk (in a cup) when they first woke up and then breakfast an hour or so later. This would be cereal (weetabix or readybrek with raisins) followed by yoghurt or toast.

Maybe he doesn't like toast. Try other things as well like small lumps of cheese, banana, grapes cut in quarters, breadsticks, chopped up boiled egg, pieces of ham or sausage. He'll proably chuck all that on the floor as well, but thats all part of it he'll want to feel it squidge it etc as well as taste it.

he has weetabix or porridge, but doesnt like anything else i've tried him with, i have tried him with cheese and things that i am eating he'll want to try but he opens his mouth and when i try and put things in his hand he just breaks them up and chucks them on the floor then comes to me with his mouth open again.

Not much advice I'm afraid, but just some support! my ds is pretty much the same, not really interested in finger foods, even though he's a year old. I try to break bits off stuff and put them in his mouth, then after a few days he usually ends up taking them himself. Has biscuits, cheese and toast. But fruit, veg, meat bits, eggs etc he's just not interested in eating except off a spoon in it's mushy state! Persevere and don't stress, that's what the MNers said to me. Good luck!
