BLW 11 month old - when to encourage him to eat off spoon (and fork?)

My DS is a great (BLW) eater - will eat off a spoon if loaded up but prefers to eat with fingers out of a bowl.

When should I start encouraging him to eat with/use himself a spoon and fork...? And together or separately?

And most importantly any tips on how to get him to do this?

Thanks

Sorry no answer but will watch with interest as my DS, also 11mth, is exactly the same. He will put his spoon/fork back in his bowl each time, but cannot get the idea of digging it in the food. Wasn't sure if I should just let him be or if I should be encouraging something more

Just bumping as stuck on this one with DD!

Boy at nearly 14 months is only just starting to consider it, even then it will be some time I think before he is successful. The bones in babies wrists are still soft til about 18 months making it hard for them to manoeuvre the cutlery very easily.

I wouldn't worry too much for a while yet

ds is 16 months and can kind of use a spoon - dip and suck method. When the food seems appropriate I gave him one from about 1 yr, sometimes pre-loaded, don''t stress if they just chuck it. Slowly he's improved.

I also let him have a bite off my real fork, spoon so he gets the idea. Probably not advisable if you are worried about them poking their eyes out Grin.
