My hv says that ds is a hungry baby and I am denying him food. She thinks I need to give him some baby rice. He is 12 weeks. All my family say she's right but I'm not sure.

What do you think?

Seems very strange that your Hv would advise weaning at 12 weeks.Have you increased volume /amounts of milk feeds first?

WigWamBam · 16/12/2005 22:50

I think either your HV is having a laugh, or you are ...

newone · 16/12/2005 22:51

But the spoons say from 3 months.......

I think we need Hunker here, she's great at this sort of stuff.

newone · 16/12/2005 22:52

Is there anyone else who can proffer some advice?

Ignore HV, ignore your family, ignore the spoons, search the archives.....end of

TinselMunkerWentToGlitteryLand · 16/12/2005 22:53

Probably best to start him on a bacon sandwich. Make sure the butter's nice and thick though. Or if you can't cook (and let's face it, you're not very bright, are you?), just go to McDonald's.

Urgh don't talk to me about butter. Was at a work's do earlier and asked friend where she'd got the creamy cheese on her french bread. Turned out to be margarine - very thickly spread. Bleurgh!

FWIW my HV advised weaning DS1 at 12 weeks and I followed, gave him baby rice initially and then single flavour purees, kept it very simple and to a minimum up until he was six months.

However with DS2 and the benefit of MN we waited, although still caved as the HV was disputing the WHO recommendations to wait until six months, we were moving house, I was stressed out and starting to believe the myth that weaning would make everything better, so started on a little taste at 17 weeks.

I have two healthy children but if I had my chance again I would ignore the HV and try and wait it out a bit longer.

All the best.
