1 year and won't eat food with bits in

hello to all mums. i'm having a dilemma, my son won't eat food with bits in, he's still on jars for 4 month old and gags when i give him the other older jars. he'll eat finger food so i don't know what's wrong.
any advice?

oh its a pain, isn't it?

mine did that. i think it was something like he could only cope with one texture in each mouthful.

what i did was stop giving him purees altogether and focussed on finger foods for a bit.

actually mealtime is a real mission, i hate it. whenever i go to give him the first mouthful he always shakes his head at me. as long as i can get the first one in i'm generally ok but he does take a lot of distracting.
some finger foods he just throws on the floor so if i stop puree food he'll go hungry. that's why i have kept giving him them.

Yes, ds (now 2) has a mega gag reflex. Bit of a yawn, isn't it? He's still pretty hopeless now but is does get better, honest.

that's reassuring! it's just my mother keeps saying he should be on proper solids by now but if he won't eat he won't eat. i can't force him.
he even has his back teeth so i've no idea why he doesn't like them, he can chew.
my friends son is younger and loves the bits, but they are all different i suppose.
