I am about 4 weeks into weaning my 5 and a half month old. He's taking purees and baby porridge really well, loving all the different flavours I'm introducing him to.
I have tried him with finger food but because he has two teeth he bit off a huge piece of avocado and then didn't know what to do with it. I had to prise it out of his mouth.
I've been reading all the weaning threads and they all seem to be about BLW. I'm just not sure whether we're (i.e. me and baby) are going to be able to get on board with it. I have no confidence because I am sh*t scared of him choking, and he seems to struggle because he doesn't know how to suck or "gum" (whatever that means).
Or is it maybe just a question of sticking to the purees for now and then starting with finger foods when he's a bit older?
Would hate to think I'm in any way hindering his development but at the same time don't want to force him to do something for the sake of following the latest "trend" (and I don't mean trend as in fad - I know some people swear by BLW, but I mean something that is relatively new advice which may change over time as all advice relating to babies tends to change)
Any thoughts?
