When to up "meals" from once per day to more often?

Little one is 6.5 months now. Have been trying out foods at lunchtime - not a great deal of interest shown. Probably blindingly obvious question but ... should I wait until these are eaten with more gusto before attempting to introduce a breakfast/evening meal?

Thanks.

I would Tinks. It's early days in terms of eating isn't it? I seem to remember leaving it for ages with dd since she wasn't interested straight away either.

LIZS · 04/12/2005 11:03

I waited until they took a portion well - about 8/10 spoonfuls before adding another "meal". Have you tried at other times of day and perhaps spacing it between milk feeds rather than with.

Tinker · 04/12/2005 11:17

Gulp at 8/10 spoonfuls Liz - am lucky to get 1 atm.

www - shouldn't you be doing things now you're a married woman?

What we need to do is get organised and get the highchair down from the loft and just give lots of finger food.

Tinker, he let me lie in until 9am so I let him lie in until 11am and he's in the shower now, then we're going supermarket shopping, very married!

Tinker · 04/12/2005 11:21

That's more like it.

don't want to hi-jack the thread, but I do have a quick question... my lo is 8 months and her feeding was pretty good (weaned at 5 months, her reflux stopped pretty much immediately), but for the last 3 weeks or so, her eating is just hopeless, (3-4 spoons max willingly taken per meal), though she's doing ok with finger food. No teeth yet. Should I drop a meal, or now that we have established them stick with them whatever? Really sorry Tinker , just that my dd sounds a bit like your lo... Thanks!

Tinker · 04/12/2005 11:33

Hijack away orangina, no problem.

bless you tinker!

NotQuiteCockney · 04/12/2005 11:36

orangina, I'd offer more finger food, and a wider range of finger food. I'd carry on with the same number of meals, but don't stress if she doesn't eat.

Have you tried pasta as finger food? Big pieces, like penne or fusilli, often work well. Messy, but popular.

There are plenty of threads with recommendations for finger food.

WickedWinterWitch · 04/12/2005 11:36

Orangina, I'd stick with finger food then if that's working. Esp at that in between age when they can't use a spoon themselves but don't want to be fed.

orangina · 04/12/2005 11:38

www, you're right about that being the age she is at. Thanks for your advice. Should I not even bother to offer her anything else and stick only to finger food then? She's just a bit of a skinny anyway, don't want her dropping off her (9th) percentile.....

orangina · 04/12/2005 11:39

NQC, will try pasta. She does love cheese sauce, so a new vehicle will keep the variety going!
