Salmon....how do you get it in your DC!

Hi All

I have tried an AK recipie but it has toms in it and DD can't have them. Any other ideas for purees and first tastes of this fish? She has had cod with sweet potato.

I just gave it to dd however we were having it. So either poached, grilled or oven cooked with roast veg. It's breaks into pieces so easily and dd was rather fond of a fistful of salmon from a very young age.

Fishcakes.

I usually just oven bake it and then it flakes big enough for ds to eat it with his fingers - fishcakes or salmon balls are also good ideas.

I used to put cheese sauce with fish, in fact even now 'cheesy fish' features on the meal plan and they're well beyond weaning age!

well, if you want purees I found salmon with pear and carrot always went down well.

Or salmon with sweet potato and peas

or salmon with potato and cheese

or, as others say, just give her flakes of the fish

What do you eat salmon with? Gve her that too.

How about a nice creamy risotto with little bits of flaked salmon?

I can't give her cheese which seems to feature in so many recipies. Will try the fishcake route! Thanks.

salmon and brocolli pasta with cheese sauce. DD inhales it.

We often mix a tin of salmon with mashed potato - she loves it! It's easy to freeze in portions too, or you could shape into cakes.

Mine had it poached (no salt), checked for bones and then just a fistful. Loved it.

Ours has had salmon a couple of times, but we dont eat it very often as I'm not that keen. Our LO does eat half a mackerel to herself once a week though (now aged 10 mo), and will also eat half a middle sized sea bass to herself. We just give her plain fillet of fish with a bit of black pepper on it - mackerel and sea bass are quite good cos the flakes are large and stay together well enough for her to pick up plus the bones are large and easy to remove. She has had salmon and sea bass in fish cakes, as I always use up any left overs in her lunchbox the next day. I make them with Thai spices, or with finely choppped spring onion, ginger and a little red chilli, which she seems to enjoy. I want to try her with sardines now, as I love them myself, but I'm too scared of her finding tiny fiddly bones still in them - it's so hard to get them all out! she has actually eaten a whole fresh anchovy, bones and all, when 7 months, whilst on holiday in Italy, but only 'cos she swiped the thing from my plate before I could stop her! I was petrified, but apart from a few "this is a lot crunchier than I expected" faces, she managed it fine!

I microwave a frozen fillet and share it with DD - she loves picking up flaked bits of salmon. I am just too lazy to do anything else with it as she is really happy with it like that.
