Weaning help!

DS is nearly six months old and has been breast fed to a healthy 19lb! He doesn't seem insatiably hungry but I believe I'm supposed to start weaning at 6 months. I want to keep some breast feeding until 1 year, but I have to go back to work next month , and would welcome tips both on general weaning and on getting DS ready to give up daytime feed for the one day when I'll be at work all day (other days just doing half days). I don't let down at all when expressing, so that's not an option. Also DS has no experience of bottles/beakers - will that matter? (he is a very sucky baby)

Ooh, that's handy. Was wondering how soon to start bumping up the meals. He's such a guts, he just keeps eating anything I put in front of him! At this rate he's going to end up too full for milk and I'll have no supply, and bang goes bf for a year idea! I can't remember if you've already said, but how soon did you drop the milk to 3 times a day?

My situation wasn't the same as yours (SAHM) but I did find it really difficult to find good information on starting solids after breastfeeding.

If you have time to read it, I found the WHO info on infant nutrition really good (this is the link for info on complimentary feeding (bf and solids together) . I found it gave a bit of perspective on feeding your baby after a good bf start and it actually gives some good advice about what to actually feed your baby at different stages.

We started dd on a sippy cup in the bath - that way it didn't matter if she poured water all over herself (she drank the bath water anyway ). The main difficulty was finding a cup she didn't have to suck.

Hope it all goes well.

Just wanted to give a huge THANK YOU to everyone who has helped me on this thread. You're all very lovely and very patient!! Especially Tipex.

Anyway, ds is now on 2 to 3 meals a day, and the last 3 days has dropped a milk feed, so is now absolutely where I need him to be for going back to work. Bless him! Now all I have to do is adjust to being back at work (and not watching re-runs of ER every day!!!).

Thank you
