Quick Q re. how many meals I should give?

Afternoon all,

I'm just about to start weaning DD (24 weeks) as she can sit up in a high chair, put things in her mouth and grabs food from my plate. Do I crack straight on with 3 meals a day plus her usual milk feeds? I'm going to give her finger foods straight away as well as a bit of mashed up stuff; I like the idea of BLW but am not going to be a purist about it - not planning on doing any proper purees.

Thanks in advance

I would build up to it. One meal, couple of weeks later, two meals, couple of weeks later, three meals.

Not because I think it would do any harm to give three meals, but it's something new so I think it's best to do it gradually.

We did BLW and just popped DD in the highchair whenever we were eating from day one. She didn't always eat much but we always offered her something like a bit of veg or fruit to play with. It was more for fun and socialisation than for eating though.

It may take while for stuff to start going in whatever method of weaning you use.

Same as VeronicaCake here. Just gave DS food whenever we were eating/he wan't too tired etc. Some days that was once a day, others it might be three times. DS is now 8mo and almost always eats three times a day, sometimes more. I don't think it really matters to start with, just offer whenever you have the time and your DD seems in the mood for it. Best if you can be eating at the same time though, I find this makes a big difference to DS's enthusiasm
