I gave it to both mine at 6 months (in fact prob earlier )

I followed the Gina Ford weaning book (religiously if I recall ha ha ha) and she says to give milder tasting veggies and fruits at first as they may balk at the taste.

I did earlier than 6 months as well and don't care who knows.

Gave at about 6 or 7 months absolutely fine

compo · 23/11/2005 10:38

perfectly fine for a 6 month old

clary · 23/11/2005 10:38

the issue is that strong flavours like this can be a bit much for early weaning, also that brassicas (showing my farming roots there!) like broc, cauli, brussels can cause colic and similar probs.
But I would say fine at 6mo (as opposed to 4mo) esp if mixed with eg potato or carrot to blandify it down....

broccoli and carrot was a popular one

Ds loves broccoli, was about the second food we gave him (at 6mo). We put a stalk/floret on his tray and he goes frantic trying to pick it up and get it in his mouth.

You can't second-guess babies. Flavours that we think are too strong or not "child-friendly" may well be the one they think is heaven.

Ds likes lettuce too. Now that is wierd.

fruitful · 23/11/2005 10:41

Oh yes Clary, you're right. Brassicas at lunchtime not teatime if you want a quiet night!

Bozza · 23/11/2005 10:43

I would and did give it. By 9 months they were just about on family food and that always includes plenty of brocolli.

clary · 23/11/2005 12:54

fruitful my ds2 always eats all the lettuce you get in cafes as "garnish" on the plate - all of his and anyone else's he can get too.
Strange child!

hotmama1 · 23/11/2005 12:58

I would say fine - may be strong tasting so good to mix with carrots etc. Look forward to the nappies and wind!

madmarchhare · 23/11/2005 13:00

Oo yes, DS had it from the start and still loves it now .

colditz · 23/11/2005 13:02

My ds's favourite finger food at 7 months was brocilli. He won't touch it now, of course
