7mo slow weight gain since starting weaning

I'm sure everyone is going to say this is fine and to stop worrying, but just seeing what the general opinion is.

7mo bf DS has always been on the 75th centile but in the last 6 weeks has only put on a couple of oz, he is still above the 50th so I wasn't worried until the HV (I know, I know) said 'we're not worried but can you come back for another weigh in next week?' I can't so she said to come in 2 weeks. No advice on whether to change anything so if they genuinely aren't worried then why the reweighing? Is it just protocol? Or should I be doing something differently in the meantime?

We are BLW and DS does seem to put away a reasonable amount, tho less then a spoonfed baby I suspect. I've not actively dropped milk feeds and still feeding on demand (though I have a feeling he has cut down a bit himself), don't really offer solids at any regular times, just if I'm eating and/or DS seems amenable to it. Should I cut back the solids so he has more milk? Or increase them? Or do nothing and find something else to worry about.

He's the same in himself, hasn't been ill, has had 5 teeth come through in this time but they've not bothered him massively I don't think.
Any thoughts?

PS, the HV recommended NMs for advice Hmm, I told her I was more of a MNetter and she didn't even know it existed!! Shock Smile

i would carry on as you are for the time being

if it was the case that he had drastically reduced milk feeds in favour of solids then i'd say slow down on the food and try and increase milk, but as that isn't the case I really think you should just take his lead tbh

it isn't a huge drop from the 75th to the 50th, and presumably he is still gaining weight, albeit slower that he was?

babies do tend to plateau after a while anyway, so it could easily be that.

Thanks for the speedy reply Smile

That's pretty much what I think. He is still gaining weight but only just. Its just the 'We're not worried but need to weigh again in 2 weeks' comment thats thrown me a bit.

i'd maybe accidentally forget and make it 3 or 4 weeks

TittyBojangles · 25/05/2011 19:50

Good idea, I AM pretty forgetful these days, though if there is a good reason to go in 2 weeks I'm happy to, but they couldn't really say why, just kept saying they weren't worried, which I wasn't,... until they kept saying they weren't iyswim.

Ds was a 50th centile baby all the way on ebf and then gradually slipped down to the 25th after weaning.

He's been there or there about ever since (he's 4 so the weighing stopped long ago).

It's pretty normal I think. I've known babies go the other way too. Their bodies will just do their own sweet thing, and all else being well and happy they're probably best left to it Smile
