Have posted similar thread under different topic, someone suggested to post in this one. DS is 1yo, still having 5 bottles a day and HV has suggested watering them down and giving only in an open topped cup. I cant decide whether to follow this advice!!!! Surely if watering down, then the bottles will eventually go anyway? She even said bedtime bottle in a cup and I know he wont like that at all, but she said he doesnt need the feed really anyway.

He does need to increase his solid intake - yesterday tea time was only 4 mouthfuls of his main meal!!!!

Do I follow the advice or not? The other thing is (as suggested by someone else), do I give him cow's milk and vitamin drops and not worry about the amoutn of milk intake!! Am feeling very confused!!!

He only needs to have about a pint of milk a day although he may like to have more and it's not going to harm him. I don't understand why she suggests watering the bottles down, why not just give him less? If you give milk in a cup he will probably drink less and eat more solid food but he may hate having his milk in a cup and lots of babies have bottles beyond 2 years. You possibly do need to consider giving him less milk but there's no need to be dramamtic about it, just gradually reduce the amount he has,he will eat more and want less milk.........You can change to ordinary milk after I year, it's cheaper and less faff.

Sorry I'm suggesting that the hv's watering down the milk suggestion is a bit dramatic not you OP.

I guess the hv is saying that if your ds doesnt want to give up that quantity of milk, then watering it down will fill him up less - I dont know, but thats what my hv suggested when ds1 was wee. I agree though, giving him a cup instead of a bottle is more likely to make him cut back of his own accord
