Does DD need extra fluids?

DD is 7.5 months and has only really just got going with solids. I'm BFing on demand and have not altered how much I feed her. My mum keeps going on about giving her water with meals, is it me or is this rubbish? Surely she will still be getting all the fluids she needs from the milk?

She will get all the fluid she needs from bm. I sometimes do offer water to 6 mo DS at mealtimes out of a sippy cup but that's more as an experience and so he knows other things can be drunk that aren't mummy's milk!

I offered water from a cup with meals when weaning, though he doesn't drink loads.

So long as she isn't constipated and you're demand feeding I'm sure she's fine though.

I would offer a small cup of water with meal, if only to get her used to drinking out of the cup (rather than the water itself)

I always offer water with meals on the proviso that I drink with my meals. It seems logical to me but as Rita says if she is not constipated then it's probably ok.
