6mo - is there any food to avoid?

I'm just starting to wean dd and I cannot remember if there are any foods which they aren't allowed yet? (Apart from honey - I remember that is only from a year)

I am not thinking processed food, rather eg are bananas and wholemeal bread ok?

(Am embarrassed to admit this is dc3, but I hate weaning and have apparently blocked out everything I did with the first two!!)

Nothing to avoid except the honey which you already know, whole nuts and added salt which I expect you know anyway. Wholemeal stuff is fine but I think the advise is to give a mixture as it is so filling so for example make a sandwich with one slice wholemeal and one slice white.

advice. Flipping heck what is wrong with me?

Indith · 08/05/2011 20:32

Oh excellent, to add to my ineptness my bolding isn't even working. Maybe it is time I logged off.

I've never heard anything about egg apart from not giving runny egg yet. Cow milk is fine for cereals and cooking with, just not as the main drink.

Great - thank you!!

I agree - everything is fine except runny eggs, honey and whole nuts. I checked because, on telling some other mums at swimming what DD (7 months) had eaten the day before, they said that she should not have: egg whites, strawberries, salmon (or any oily fish) and any soft cheese (she had eaten scrambled eggs, toast and strawbs, then mozzarella, pitta and avocado, then homemade salmon fishcakes)... I was a bit Hmm so I checked with my HV last week - they were talking nonsense!

Wow legally, what are their dc eating?! Your dd's diet sounds great. My ds has had all of those. Loves his food, bless him.

Is peanut butter okay for a 6 month old then? (The stuff with no added salt or sugar, obviously!). No history of nut allergy in the family and I ate nuts all the way through my pregnancy.
