Weaning and constipation

My DD is almost 7 months and has been on a jar for her tea and a fromage frais for lunch for about 4 weeks. When weaning started almost instantly her poo changed from wet to formed hard stools. I have been giving her very watered down sugar free ribena at meal times and in between in hot weather. The past week she has been suffering from very bad constipation crying in agony and passing very little. I have been "helping" her by wiping her with a bit of pressure to get it out as it feels that if I left her to it nothing would come out. The 2 times she has pooped this week she has had blood trickling out of her anus. Do I need to go to the doctors about this? I think I can see a small tear at the top of her anus and I;m not sure if anything is wrong inside. Since Wednesday I have been giving her 10mls of Lactulose a day should I increase this? I am unsure of dosage as my mum went to the 24hr pharmacy on Wednesday night after her first bad episode. At my 16 week scan I was told she had an echogenic bowel but at my 20 week scan they said it seems fine. I seem to have it in my mind that something is wrong with her digestive system.

I would see the Dr . Also why give her Ribena? it is full of rubbish and you will have a battle on your hands later to try and get her to drink water

I have tried on many occasions to give her water but she just wont have it. I only put a tiny drop of ribena in!

Well that is your choice, but Ribena does say not suitable for under 3s on the bottle and it sends my 8year old a bit loopy still! I am currently weaning my DD and her stools turned hard over night, she seemed constipated for a couple of days now she doesn't seem in any discomfort. I really would get her checked out as for her bottom to be bleeding it must be really sore and she could end up holding poo in and that can start a nasty cycle.

If you feel that you must give something with the water so that she takes it then perhaps a teeny tiny drop of fresh orange juice as thats supposed to help constipation. Or even juices directly "marketed" for babies if you want to but please don't give her Ribena and especially not sugar free Ribena as it's full of chemicals and additives to replace the sugar.

How is she with eating fruit/veg etc?

I would go to the GP and see what they say. 10ml of lactolose sounds like quite a lot for a baby actually...Ive got IBS and I have to take lactolose occasionally and my starting dose is 10ml!
