My son is 6 months this week so I was thinking of giving him his first spoonful of baby rice tomorrow, but he's got a bit of diarrohea, just come on today, each of the 5 nappy changes have had a runny poo in them.

I'm wondering if I should delay introducing the baby rice?

Baby rice is unlikely to cause any problems but delaying a few days won't hurt either. On balance I'd probably wait a day or two.

When we started weaning our DD at 6 months (only started on baby rice and banana as we wanted to see what she'd do!) DD's tummy went into overdrive and she pooed constantly for 2 days, yucky poo, and ended up with a red raw bum. The health visitor said that this can happen when introducing solids and we stopped for a few days before starting again and she was fine. If your DS gets a red bum, stop using wipes and just use cotton wool and water, pat dry with a towel and let his bum air dry too, and use a barrier cream like vaseline. hope that helps.

My DS had this too when we started BLW. At first I wasn't sure if it wasn't the toothpaste (we'd just started brushing his two teeth with milk teeth toohpaste) so we stopped using that for a while, but the mountains of poo continued. 4 weeks on, and it's calmed right down now. I think ti's just their digestive system getting used to the new foods. I found changing him immediately and using Bepanthen cream helped any redness.
