when making puree in advance do I add milk or not?

As the thread title says really - am going to cook up a whole batch of carrots, squash, apple etc - my Annabel Karmel book says to mix with a little formula or breast milk - do I do this and then freeze it or do I freeze it by itself and then add the milk once defrosted. Silly question really but I can't work it out.

I never added milk to the purees, just left them plain so the taste was stronger.

I did freeze mashed potato once and the milk / butter was fine when de-frosted.

I have to confess I never involved milk of any description at all. I guess your LO is only a few months, in which case the puree is at best a toy so he/she will be getting all the nutrition they need from regular BF/bottles. I wouldn't worry about it unless your LO refuses point blank, in which case maybe the addition of a little milk would help, but I'd freeze the puree without it.

you can add milk before or after or not at all! - it is up to you

How old is your baby yellowflowers? If he/she is 6 months you don't need to make any purees at all...

hazeyjane · 07/05/2011 20:40

I found it handy to add milk after defrosting/warming the puree, so that i could cool it down a bit, if too hot. Ds doesn't really have milk in stuff now, but at the beginning, he seemed to prefer the purees if there was a little bit of milk mixed in.

it really, truly does not matter at all whether you do it before or after

but if your baby is 6 months i'd recommend ditching AK, and buying a Gill Rapley book instead.... far, far easier :)

...unless your baby and you are happy doing the purees thing, in which case carry on with what your doing - but it doesn't matter if the milk goes in before or after freezing.

Thank you. BLW not for me.
