Hi,

Just wondering what the average sized portion is for a 6.5month old Having 3 meals a day is.... How much, what and when do you feed your baby?

Thanks

3 meals a day is a lot for a 6 month old.
At that age, they are usually on only one meal.
A second is usually introduced at 7 or 8 months and a third at 9 months.
Obviously it depends on your baby though.

The portion size really depends on the baby and how long they have been eating for.
In the very beginning, they usually eat only a teaspoon or so of puree.
This can increase very gradually, or shoot up to a desertspoon or even more.
You really need to follow your baby's lead and give as much or as little as they seem to cope with.

I started weaning at 5 1/2 months and within a few weeks ds was on 3 (small) meals per day. I just fed to appetite (or when the food in the bowl ran out!) and ds let me know when he'd had enough. I gave milk first and solids an hour or more later so that the milk intake didnt drop too quickly.

Really? We followed my daughters lead all the way and introduced meals when she became hungrier. We started weaning at 22 weeks if that makes a difference. Most of the 6 month old babies I know are on at least 2 meals and most of them 3.....

Mine was happily on 3 meals a day at 6 months, started at 22 weeks too. He took to food straight away and would polish off 90 ml or even 120 ml of fruit or veg at 6 months. I kept to fruit and veg until 6 months, then introduced chicken then fish then beef. At 8 months he will polish off 180 ml easily of main course e.g. fish pie or cauliflower cheese and still be opening his mouth for more at the end. So has some fruit or other finger food for afters. He still has 600 ml milk a day as well.

Hmm, how much is 90-120ml?

We just give her food and she is very good at letting us know when she has had enough!! Just wondered if there was a rough average?! She has had a sickness bug recently which seems to have either knocked her a bit food wise or has coincided with some habits changing. Finding it hard to know if we're doing ok and of we're on track!

Don't worry too much about whether or not you're 'on track'.
There is so much variation between children that such information is meaningless.
Just give her what she seems to want and need.
Her milk intake should still be significant at 6 months and, although it will start to drop off in the next few months, it will still provide the bulk of her nutrition.

As long as she is growing and gaining weight at a reasonable rate, you should feel free to follow her lead and your instinct.
