Need a bit of reassurance that I'm doing the right thing

Hi,

We're doing BLW with DS, he seems happy enough. Self feeds and takes loaded spoons and then does a grand sweep of the highchair when he's had enough. We're currently doing two meals a day.

I'm having a bit of a case of the wibbles tbh, so many of my friends babies are puree fed and they seem to be guzzling down food at a rate of knots and reducing their milk feeds on top of it.

I did try purees but DS looked at me as if I was an idiot and refused to take the spoon off of me so I thought 'well thats that then'. I said this to my friend and she said that her baby did similar and that it was a phase and I should have persevered.

I am doing the right thing aren't I.

Sorry I've never weaned a child before, this is all new to me.

If he's happy, enjoying it, you're happy, he's getting milk, etc then just carry on. It suits some parents and babies, and not others. fwiw, my dcs both looked at me like I was insane when I tried to spoonfeed them, and thrived on BLW - currently 4.5 years and 18mo. I'd raise my eyebrows at anyone who told me I "should have persevered", frankly. But don't discuss it with them, tbh - make it brief, and then change the subject. There's only so many conversations you can have about it after all.

You are doing the right thing. And believe me some babies will not accept a spoon no matter how much you persevere, my DD was one of them.

you are doing the right thing. the tables will be turned in a few weeks/ months when your ds is eatng all proper food and others are struggling to get their dcs to eat lumps etc. i know. blw wasnt something i was aware of when i weaned my dd's but i really wish i had known about it !

Thank you for the reassurance. DS is having a blast with it all, he's covered himself (and me) in Yogurt and strawberrries at lunch time today and then laughed at me.
