Hi,

My daughter is 6 months old and we have been weaning for a few weeks now. She is currently on 2 meals a day and things are going well. We had a bad week-10days where she had a horrible cold and was off her food but we're back on track now. She has been having purees of fruit and veg but I'm conscious now that she should be eating more flavours and more textured things. How do I introduce lumps and texture to her food. I understand about finger food but what about her spoons of food?

On finger foods though, she doesn't seem overly keen on putting food into her mouth even though everything else goes in!! I have held a stck of cucumber etc for her to chew on but when she bites (she has 2 teeth!!) a bit off she gags and is sick! Is this normal?

Thanks

With the purees - you just have to try it and see. Just puree it a bit less so it's not completely smooth, or just mash with a fork.

For finger food - why not try something a bit softer so that when she does bite a bit off she can chew with her gums a bit more easily? Roast sweet potato or butternut squash were favourites with my DD when we started, or ripe banana or avacado.

A bit of gagging is completely normal, she's just reacting to and learning to deal with the chunks. As she gets used to them, the gagging will get less.

Good luck!
