Annabel Karmel - Am I just being thick!

Just started weaning PFB, I'm looking at the Annabel Karmel book - complete meal planner and it says that at 3 weeks baby should be eating 2 solids (breakfast and lunch) but by week there there is no milk at lunch just water and a solid. Please forgive me if I am being really think and questioning the obvious, but is she saying by week 3 my baby will be eating enough solids to drop a milk feed? I just thought it would take ages to get to this stage?!

Also if this is the case, any thoughts, my baby (bottlefed) only gets 4 feeds per day, not 5 because is in bed by 7 and sleeps through to 7am - other than when she was waking in the night hungry and that lead me to weaning. So, what are peoples thoughts on droping a milk feed if she is only getting 4? Maybe give 1/2 bottle rahter than nothing??

Thanks!!

I think you are supposed to let them drop the feeds at their own pace, so I would ignore that advice.

I didnt give milk along with food as I gave milk first and solids an hour or more later. DS had 5 milk feeds up till 8 months when he dropped his night feed. He was on 4 feeds till about 9 months and was on 2 feeds by the time he was 11 months

Your baby knows her own needs better than Annabel Karmel does - let her drop milk when she's ready.

Agree, let your baby lead the way.

Think they are supposed to aim for 500-600ml of milk a day until one though, for guidance, although once you are into weaning you can count milk on cereals, yoghurt and cheese towards that.

I wouldn't get too hung up following anyone's meal planner, just do what works for you.
