16mth old won't eat home cooked food

Really need some advice/a reality check. My 16mth old will only eat bread, some cheese, fromage frais, and any cake/biscuit/sweet thing he manages to get his hands on. He will happily eat stage 1 (and some stage 2) ready made purees but resolutely refuses to even open his mouth for anything I make him and won't eat anything lumpy from me or from a jar. I've tried pureeing everything and making finger food but doesn't make a difference - it all ends up in the bin. Because I don't want him to go hungry I usually end up giving him the ready made stuff but I don't know whether that is just reinforcing his refusal to eat other stuff. Should I persevere with cooking for him and let him go hungry if he doesn't eat it or should I give him stuff I know he'll eat and stop stressing? Or is there another way?! It's frustrating to cook food that he won't eat and when I resort to ready made food day in day out I feel like a lousy mum.

I would do as anniemac suggests - just sit him at the table while you/the rest of the family eat your meal, put his in front of him and let him get on with it.
