How to find the time?

I have just started weaning DS.

I am possibly being a bit dense here but, what with naps every couple of hours and bf on demand (approx 3 hourly), how do I find the time to fit in 3 meals a day, until he cuts down on the BFs?

There's really no rush.

How are you weaning? We did Baby Led Weaning, so it was just a case of offering food if it was a mealtime and she happened to be awake. As her milk and sleep habits changed over the course of a few months, she went from being awake for 1 meal if we were lucky, right up to 3.

It just takes time.

I've no clue about puree feeding, if I'm honest. But there's still no rush to get them onto 3 meals a day within a very short space of time, I don't think?

How old is DS?

Are you BLW or using purees? Or bit of both?

beela · 16/03/2011 09:21

He is 23 wks.

Perhaps I am listening too much to the HVs (ie 1 meal 1st wk, 2 meals 2nd, 4 meals by 1 month in).

I am doing a mixture, he loves his purees but also enjoys gnawing a bit of fruit.

Will try not to worry as he is still quite young, and just enjoy the fact that he is enjoying whatever we are doing at the moment, and try to go with the flow :)

Does the HV plan continue like that? 8 meals by 2 months, 12 meals by 3 months...Because if so you'll really be struggling once he is one.

But in the meantime if he seems hungry and awake enough to want to explore a bit of solid food offer it. But if he'd prefer plenty of breastfeeds do that.

We went straight to offering DD something to eat whenever we ate from about 6 months. She quite enjoyed sitting in her highchair watching us, so it meant we could eat in peace. I don't think she ate very much for quite a while though.

Hi

I've been weaning for about 7 weeks now and have only just started meal 3 today. As DD got older she cut down on her naps which means we could fit it all in. Even now though it feels like we are constantly feeding!

I think I done it maybe like your HV said? We started at 6 months

1st week tasters with 10am bottle.
2nd week:
7am bottle and fruit
10am bottle
12pm veg
2pm bottle
5pm bottle
7pm bottle

3rd week
Added in veg at 5pm

As meals became more and established by the end of 7 months, breakfast milk went into a cup as a drink.
10am and 2pm bottles were snack
5pm bottle disappeared.

And this is still where we are now at 14 months.

Made it so much easier.
