How much water does your 1yr old drink?

DS has just turned one, and is a milkaholic. He BFs on demand, and demands often - 2/3 times at night and sometimes 10 times a day - some just for little mouthfuls, others for long drinks (before sleep usually).

I'd like him to reduce BF during the day as I'm back to work soon, but he refuses cows milk so I've been offering water - he'll drink it, but not much -sometimes only 30ml a day.
How much does your child drink? And how can I get him to drink more water? I'm worried he'll get dehydrated as the summer comes...

DD has just turned one too.

My guess is that when you go back to work and he doesn't have the option of a little mouthful of milk every time he gets a bit thirsty, then he'll drink water instead.

DD didn't drink much water until quite recently, she still doesn't sit down a drink a lot in one go, but she has a gulp here and there all through the day so long as I remember to keep a cup on the go. For her the turning point was when I put some cow's milk in the cup in the afternoon, luckily for me she liked it pretty much straight away and got much better at drinking both milk and water from the cup after that. That coincided with me cutting out daytime breastfeeds so maybe she was also a bit thirstier.

Just keep offering water and he'll get the hang of it, especially as it gets warmer, he'll want it more.

Hope that all makes sense.
