babyrice and tummy aches and reflux?

my ds is 5 months and seemed to be ready for a bit of babyrice fun (doubled birthweight, staring st food, hungrier, waking up more etc) so I've been trying baby rice, just a teaspoonful, for the last few days. He's never been a good sleeper but now seems worse than ever, waking up 3 times and v hard to settle, and is also very grumbly, all of which we thought was down to teething. Now I'm wondering if it's down to the babyrice causing tummy aches - or is it too neutral for that? He also has reflux, which he's taking meds for - could the babyrice aggravate it?

i would have thought the baby rice would be fine with reflux, as it's heavier and should stay in the stomach?

Not sure what the prob is - i would call health visitor if i were you. Might be something simple like changing the brand of baby rice? or holding off weaning for another couple of weeks?

HV is a bit rubbish to be honest. He loves the whole eating thing, always seems to want more. And I was hoping solids would help the sleep issue, but reading other threads it seems like it might be wishful thinking.

From experience (my son is 6 months old), solids is not necessarily equal to better sleep/ sleeping through

that's the impression I'm getting - just can't work out whether it's digestion that's bothering him at the mo. He's been showing signs of teething for weeks and weeks so I thought that was it (temperature on and off all the time, gnawing hands/ blanket and has been dribbling constantly for about 2 months) but I'm not sure now whether the terrible nights we've had lately are food related of tooth related.

baby rice can be constipating. what about trying veg or fruit instead which will also have more nutritional value than baby rice.

thank you! he's definitely not constipated though ... quite the opposite in fact! may try other things instead. could it just be too early? WHO guidelines and all that. being a parent is one dilemma after another isn't it?!
