When to start weaning Wks or mths

Do you go by the number of weeks your baby is or by mths & his DOB.

Ds will be 24 wks on sat, in mths he will 6mths on the 25th, he has shown no interest in food, with my other two girls they started waking again in the night so knew to start them on solids, he hasn't of yet (currently feeding him as had jabs & is teething & hasn't been happy chappy today)

Any advice gratefully received.

6 months is 26 weeks (half of 52 weeks)

A few days isn't going to make much difference :) But yes 6 months is 26 weeks, not 24.

Waking in the night isn't recognised as a sign of needing weaning any more BTW - advice is just to give more milk. But if he's 6 months or nearly then it's probably the right time to start giving him tastes of things. If he is waking then it might help with that anyway.

I started weaning when my ds could sit fairly well, had lost his tongue thrust reflex, and could pick food up and get it to his mouth. This was 22 weeks for him.

Umm, whenever fits in best with your schedule. Will make no difference.
Once met a mum who told me she wouldn't be weaning even 48 hours early because it would be harmful. Logic seems to be thrown out of the window when it comes to baby feeding.

yes but the op seemed to imply that 24 weeks was 6 months - I was replying to her, not to you. (no need for the sigh!)

I read it differently (funny how you can get different meanings from the same words!) - I read it as the OP asking whether she should start now at 24 weeks (as she assumed that was 6 months) even though he has shown no interest/has continued sleeping ok, etc. It wouldnt make a difference either way I suppose - I started ds at 5 1/2 months so cant say anything about starting a bit early Smile

Thank you for the replies.

I'm going to go with the flow and let my Ds decide when he wants to.

Will be interesting to see what the health visitor says re this at baby clinic on tues, as I over heard her say that you go by weeks until they are a year then in mths after that whilst talking about weaning.
