What do I use if DD has never had formula? There are so many out there and I don't want weaning to get off to a bad start because DD doesn't like the taste of/isn't used to formula.

Do I even need to start with rice at all?

Any tips really appreciated!

Thanks

Why can't you use expressed BM? Honest question, as I did and wouldn't know why you couldn't.

You don't need to start with rice. You can use expressed BM if you do. If you don't have expressed bm then I think one formula is pretty much the same as the next.

You can skip rice if you want to. Go straight to fruit + veg purees, or you can skip the purees completely and just give them food to explore with their hands and find their own way into their mouth - referred to as "Baby led weaning".

I think EBM makes it into a weird texture or something, PAAN?

My DS had never had formula so I used boiled water but he hated it so I just went straight onto purred fruit and veg.

Actually, he hated that too so we ended up doing BLW which I'm glad to say has been a resounding success!

*pureed that should say!

I never bothered with baby rice. From 6 months though you can use cow's milk in food though.

I used EBM the first and only time we did baby rice - didn't seem to be any issue with it. However, I decided it was fairly disgusting glop and went straight to pureed veg. Then BLW when DS could sit up (he was prem).

My DS didn't like baby rice at all. However, he yummed up pureed fruit and veg.

we are weaning ds3 stated with rusks and still using them as a breakfast and supper, why can't we use expredded milk for baby rice, or rusks? i am, and did wthds 1 and 2. how do i encourage ds3 to drink from beaker? soley bf so not keen on plastic

I never used baby rice, you really don't have to. If you want to wean slowly with puree then just do some simple veg/fruit ones or as others have said you can just go straight onto finger foods if weaning at 6 months. Just fling some chopped up fruit, steamed veg or bits of food off your plate ontot he highchair tray and stand back Grin

If she is 6 months or more, you can just use cows milk.
