When to introduce meat

DD - 7 months - has been happily eating vegetable and fruit purees for the last month or so. I was wondering when I should introduce chicken and other meats.

Now! Try chicken and fish first and then buid up to pork, beef, sausage etc. Also dairy, pasta etc should all be introduced now need to be having a balanced diet by 8 months. My DS now 9 months now has whatever we are having lumpily mashed, and wolfs down everything we put in front of him.

OTOH you might want to avoid dairy and wheat until 12m to reduce the risk of developing intolerances to either of them.

You can get the nutrients that are in dairy and wheat from other sources, they aren't compulsory.

Thanks. I will get some chicken at the weekend and get cooking.

On the dairy side, I thought I might mix some natural yoghurt with some fruit puree. What did you start with?

I'm still at the fruit and veg stage but also interested as to when to intro meat...About the dairy products, dd loves those "danone baby" yoghurts. How about those as a start to dairy things..also cheese can be given, try mixing it with formula for a cheese sauce or prehaps mixing it with potato or sweet potato to give something a bit more creamier and tastier,,?? HTH.

be careful with the danone "baby" yoghurts.. they're full of sugar!

little rachels organic yoghurts are nice though... and the mums4 ones

or, i do as psychobabble does and mix regular natural yoghurt with fruit

I'm persevering with the apple puree. DD pulls a funny face when I give it to her on its own, mixed with rice and formula or mixed with natural yoghurt. She'll eat a few spoonfulls and then clamp her lips tight and won't have any more. I'm going to try mixing with rusk as my mum tried that a couple of weeks ago and she ate it all.

I'll definitely start adding dairy into her diet though - cauliflower cheese or something like that (as we love it too) as she's not had dairy so far. I'm keen to avoid sugary yoghurts although I'm sure a couple a week won't hurt if she won't eat natural yoghurt.
