Any guidelines on offering water to toddlers?

I know with babies who are on solids but under 12 months it's recommended only to give sips of water with meals so they don't replace milk feeds with water.

But are there any recommendations about offering water to toddlers? DS is 13 m.o. and bf. At the moment I only offer him water with food, but I was wondering whether I should keep a sippy cup within his reach so he can have some whenever he wants.

I didnt think you were meant to restrict it really?? I just gace mine as much water as they wanted - certainly before about 7m it all ends up down their front anyway!

I think it was Kellymom (maybe somewhere else too) that said to just offer it with solids or they could fill up on water and not take the milk they needed.

That was what I was doing anyway, and I guess I've just continued it, although he does have as much as he wants when I do offer it. Perhaps tomorrow I'll try putting out his sippy cup out where he can get to it himself.

Half of it still goes down his front even now. Wink
