how to avoid constipation in 9mo blw ds

hi there

exactly the above really, any tips?

he's very good with his fruit he loves it, and ive been consciously trying to make sure he has some every day now that his food intake is increasing (but not on 3 full meals a day yet). probably need to be more consistent with offering fruit every day though as he can go some days without (haven't noticed a particular pattern so not sure if this is the cause of the constipation, ie the days w/o fruit)

he's very good with his beaker of water and his doidy but im not sure how much water actually gets down him so ive started leaving a bottle of water around for him to play with and sip throughout the day. this gets a bit more down him but im not sure how much water he should be having so not sure if hes having enough or not.

anything else i can do to help?? its very horrible seeing him straining so hard and sometimes it can make him irritable the whole day til he does his poo Sad (on those days i make sure i ply him with lots of fruit which does the trick)

We had a problem with constipation in the early days of blw too. Clementines will unblock but can be quite explosive! My HV told me to goive DD orange juice in a cup but I wasn't willing to do that! I think apples and bananas can lead to constipation so maybe avoid these? I also used the tummy massages that I learnt at my baby massage class when DD was little and this helped too - stroking tummy clockwise and then little clockwise circles around the tummy. This always helps get this moving. Hope that's of some help

I started making sure DD had more veg (as well as fruit) and she has Shredded Wheat for breakfast on alternate days (lots of fibre!) with some sultanas or chopped dates.

shredded wheat sounds good, do u soak it in milk first? Are minis best or the big ones?

Also baby massage is a great idea will try that too

thanks :)

prunes!!! To get things moving again and from then offer lots of water. I usually hold the sippy cup wile DS drinks (loads), and then let him have a go.

I give her the mini ones, she can pick them up individually then! I soak them in milk for a couple of minutes but not too long - full fat organic cows milk rather than formula though.
