nappy rash

Hi,

I've been weaning my baby for three weeks, and over the last couple of days every time I change her nappy she's pooed. She has also started to get a really painful looking nappy rash.

Has this happened to anyone else and should I be worried?

Thank you!

A few days after starting weaning DD pooed constantly (and a bit weird poo at that) for a whole weekend, resulting in a big red bum that made her scream when we wiped it. We asked the HVs about it - they said it could be her body getting used to the solids, it could be teething or it could have been a bit of a cold (she had a runny nose that weekend too). She advised stopping the weaning for a few days to give her bum and tummy a chance to clear if this was the case, if that was it, and it did seem to do the trick, but it could have been her teeth.

However, it helps to use cotton wool and water to clean her bum instead of wipes, dry with a towel and air dry if you can, and add some barrier cream like sudocrem or even just vaseline. It should clear up. But ask your HV if you're concerned, or see your Dr if it looks really bad.

Hope that helps.

I had the same thing with ds, lasted about a week. The thing that really helped is a cream called Metanium, it's quite expensive but brilliant stuff and healed his bottom really quickly. Agree with theborrower about just using water and leaving the nappy off as much as possible.
