What should I feed him?

Just looking for a bit of advice ...
My son is 8 months next week (7m corrected) and everyone keeps telling me I should be giving him three solid meals by now, but I seem to be stuck slightly.

At the moment, he's on a jar a day (am going to try giving him a whole one at lunch, see if he'll eat it all), half at lunch, half at dinner.
I know jars aren't the best thing, and they're relatively expensive, but I don't have the facilities to cook him proper meals. Saving up for an oven, but they're so expensive and we've got so much other stuff we need to buy.

I can't feed him what me and DP eat since we're having to have mostly processed food that can be easily cooked in the mini microwave/convection oven that we're borrowing from my mum - burgers and waffles etc. And given that he doesn't eat finger foods if I give them to him, he just waves them around and occasionally munches a piece of toast if he's in the mood, it's a real struggle.

He's not hungry or anything, and loves eating from the spoon, but I just don't know what to do. Sad Any ideas are welcome!

Toast, weetabix or readybrek for breakfast.

Yoghurt, mashed banana, mashed avocado, apples or pears "stewed" in the microwave, cook a sweet potato in the microwave and scoop out the flesh. I also do things like sticks of courgette and carrot in the microwave, in a plastic tub with a bit of water!

You can put lots of things on toast/pitta bread/rice cakes/oatcakes - hummous, cream cheese, mashed avocado, fruit and veg purees. I would persevere with finger foods, offering some at every meal time even if he just plays with them for now.

Try to eat something with him too, even if it's just a piece of toast or some fruit, so he gets the social aspect of eating.

Thanks! I didn't know you could "cook" fruit in the microwave! Grin Should have known, as DP insists upon cooking allsorts in it, including bacon. Hmm

Shall have to see what fruits/veg I can afford to buy fresh and try and make up a menu for him. Never thought of using weetabix either, as I despise the stuff, but it actually makes sense as you can put anything on it.

Yeah I tend to just give ds half a weetabix for breakfast, or readybrek with half a banana mashed into it is popular too. With cooking fruit/veg in the microwave I put it in a plastic takeaway box with a bit of water in it.
