toast OK for 6 month old?

My DD2 is just 6 months old although I started her on a bit of baby porridge at 5 months and have progressed from there. She now has a bottle and baby porridge for breakfast, a bottle at lunch time, an afternoon bottle and for tea she has pureed veg and pureed fruit followed by a bottle at bed time.

Am thinking about introducing lunch - would it be OK to give her some lightly done toast with a bit of butter on - am worried about choking and really can't remember what I did with DD1!!

Also would grated cheese by OK for her to nibble on and finally when is it OK to give them weetabix??

Sorry for all the questions but any advice would be gratefully received!

you can pretty much give anything from 6 months except high salt, whole nuts and honey. Toast, cheese, weetabix all ok (you can even use full fat cows milk with cereal as long as the main drink remains breast/formula milk)

DD ate what we ate from 6 months. I've got a lovely video of her first meal and she's around 27 weeks and tucking into a roast.

No honey or whole nuts, limit salt and sugar but really they can have what you do from 6 months.

My DD (nearly 7 months) has been eating fingers of toast since 6 months and loves it. She would eat it for every meal if she could. Grated cheese would be fine but can be hard to pick up so you might be better off offering sticks of cheese instead for her to hold and nibble and suck.

That's brilliant thanks! I think I might try some toast at lunch time today!

Bread is quite high in salt, so I limit it to half a slice a day at the moment (ds also 6 months).

I used to give DS sticks of cheese and he'd melt it all in his hands and it would go yuck Grin

Cheese on toast used to be a favourite - cooled down obviously.

We've just tried toast too, and DD (6 months) LOVED it! Mind you, she has a new favourite food every day at the moment :) We're using brown bread but without all the nuts and seeds in, as I read somewhere that those bits may choke her
