Can't progress beyond purees - 11mo

Our weaning journey has been a bit of a nightmare from the start. My husband and I were both nightmares too and I sense we are getting our just desserts (pardon the pun!).
LO wouldn't eat regularly until 7 months (although she has always had trouble putting on weight so we didn't want to wait for BLW). She finally started eating whilst we were on holiday and had Ella's kitchen sachets for her and then for months would only eat these and yoghurts. I now know she can manage lumps as she eats scrambled egg, toast and even ate three cocktail sausages last week. However, if I mash food she gags, is sick and then refuses any more. I feel like a fool for not having progressed beyond smooth purees. How can we move forwards towards normal food? Please help!

I'd give finger foods alongside purees and then phase out the puree as she eats more finger foods. I didnt really have a mashed stage with ds as he ended up feeding himself really well. p.s. anything can be finger foods including rice and mashed potato (as long as you dont mind the mess!)

Yes I think you are right. If it solves the problem bring on the mess!
