Projectile vomiting after morning feed?

Hi,

I think this is the right forum to post this. It is breastfeeding related, but I think relates to weaning more than feeding.

My DS is just over 8 months and we have been doing BLW for over two months now. When just breastfeeding, he always was a bit of a pukey baby. Not enough for me to think it was reflux and it was sometimes an hour or so after a feed and he would suddenly through up a mouthful or two.

He did this till we started solids and I thought nothing of it (other than an bit of an inconvenience) until other mothers advised this didn't happen with their children past newborn posseting stage.

Since we have been giving solids he has not been sick like that.

The last three mornings, after a quickish morning breastfeed he sits up leans forward and about two mouthfuls of milk comes shooting out. I am not eating anything different and DS continues to have a varied diet, but all the sorts of things we have been giving him for the last 2 months.

The only thing that has changed recently is that he is now having a last feed at 7.30pm and then sleeping through till 6am.

After the first quick feed, he has a much longer feed from my other breast, so it is not like he has fed too much and the excess is just ejected out.

I tried this morning keeping him reclined and then sitting straight up for a few mins after the feed, but the moment he lent forward the milk came shooting out.

Any ideas??

hi, i don't have any useful info, but just thought i'd let you know that my 7 month old also does this. Was a very sicky baby up until he was weaned at 5 months and then it seemed to stop. But he has recently in the last couple of weeks started up again, just like yours after morning feed. But for the last couple of days he is also puking up during the day, while playing on his belly and moving about alot. I have been told that it is common with babies with any kind of reflux problem whether it is mild or more severe, that it can return once they are established on solids. My niece had bad reflux and hers returned once she was on 3 meals a day.

I wonder if he has always had a bit of mild reflux then? What do you do Claireabelle81? Do you bother with any gaviscon etc or just live with it?

i took him to the doctors for his 6/8 week check and mentioned it then and she said he may have MILD reflux, but when he was 12 weeks old it got much worse so i took him back and they fobbed me off and told me i was over feeding him etc, so i fed him less per feed and he still did it. I was pretty much told to live with it and it would improve by the time he was 6 months. But loads of people i talk to say the same thing, and find it hard to get diagnosed and treated! and also say that when it dissappears it reappears when they go onto solids, don't know why though. do find during the day that if he pukes after he's had his dinner its still the milk he brings up!!
