7mo DS rubbish at BLW!

Just wondering if anyone else has had any experience of this. My DS was weaned at about 5 months and loved his veggie purees etc from the word go, when he hit 6 months i started introducing finger foods, but he has no interest what so ever, if i went with BLW only he would eat nothing!
He is not into sticking things into his mouth, other than his own fingers, so i'm guessing this is most probably the reason behind it, but should i worry that he doesn't seem to want to explore things by sticking everything in his mouth, or will this just come with time?

It will come with time.

I had a similar experience, started purees atc about 4 and a half/5 months and started offering little sticks of cheese or breadsticks just before 6 months.

He was rubbish and really didn't get it. The one day he coped really well with an orgnaix rice cake and then I remember him being 7 months and he managed to eat some toast fibgers and I thought, "wow, we ARE getting somewhere".

Give it time and I would say offer him one thing every meal just so he keeps practising and don't worry if he eats it or not, just practise. I found the rice cakes good as they are a good size and they are not slippery like fruit so he didn't keep dropping them.

He is 11 months now and still does a mixture of spoon feeding and finger food but he much prefers to feed himself that's for sure.

Don't pay too much attention to comments on here about children who can feed themselves full roast dinner finger food at 6 months, it all takes time and some babies are hungrier for purees than others and need more of different things. Your LO will find his own way and you will be so proud and happy when you are sitting in a cafe together in a matter of weeks from now and he is eating a sandwich or cheese sticks.

Thankyou, you have put my mind at ease a little, I'll keep trying and see how we go.
