the curse of tiny poos...

DD started on solids around Christmas, at 6mo, and seems to like her food. She's getting a mixture of mashed food and finger foods, and things like apple puree or yogurt. But the problem recently is that nearly every nappy has a tiny poo - for example today, one at breakfast, one mid morning, one after her nap before lunch, one after lunch; and she's not just doing poos during naps but also overnight, which means that I'm having to change her then too.

I'm still giving bf mid morning, mid afternoon, evening before bed and often twice overnight; and giving her water to drink during meals, so I don't think it's constipation...

Any ideas why this is happening? Anyone else experience something like this and did it just resolve?

Oh, just thought I'd better add that she's becoming pretty mobile; she's learnt how to roll in the last week or two, and is getting herself onto hands and feet - perhaps this has something to do with it?

It is definately constipation

JarethTheGoblinKing · 25/01/2011 18:47

Constipation, definitely.

Are you offering water when she eats?

NumptyMum · 25/01/2011 18:55

I'm not sure it is constipation - yes I am offering water when she eats, and the poos aren't hard - in fact they squish nicely into her bottom (though not as bad as my DS's poo but the less said about that the better).

I've been giving her more fruit purees in case that will help, and will try giving her even more water too...

DS doesn't poo everyday, he tend to a have a poo day once a week. Again his poos aren't have or massive when they come and he doesn't seem in any discomfort but for the whole day he just does tiny poos.

He is also BFing and BLW. Has milk and breakfast, then milk mid morn, then lunch, then milk mid avo, then milk late avo, dinner, then milk before bed, plus a feed or 3 in the night.

I'm waiting for poo, I have seen one since before the weekend.

Sorry HotGiggity - just saw your post, was too tired to log on last night and just off to bed tonight (sigh). Since last posting, I've increased the amount of sloppy food I'm giving: DD eats finger food eg sandwiches quite happily but also has spoonfuls of the same type of food we eat (eg pasta and sauce, apple dessert) so I'm giving her more liquidy foods, if that makes sense. So now she's not got tiny poos, just sloppy ones! Still getting around 3 dirty nappies a day though, but at least they aren't during her sleep. I guess it will all sort itself out as her gut increases in size and she can (ahem) store it for longer before producing said poos...
