The thought of starting to wean my DD terrifies me!

She is only 14 weeks so its a good few weeks yet but I just dont know what to do.

What food do you start of with and when?

When do you go from 1 meal to 2 meals to 3 meals?

How often will she need to breastfeed when weaning starts?

I bet I sound stupid but I dont want to do anything wrong.

I know what you mean about being nervous! I am planning on introducing solids this weekend! I have bought the annabel karmel book and the baby led weaning book. Both are worth a read.

I recommend having a read up on Baby Led Weaning. No schedule, no strict rules, no pressure, no purees!

I started at 22 weeks as my ds seemed ready - in the first few days I just offered him some bits of fruit and veg around an hour after a breastfeed at lunch time. Think we started off with banana, then roasted parsnip, brocolli - things he could hold easily basically. He's now 24 weeks and has something at lunch time and porridge for tea about an hour before his bedtime feed. He hasn't dropped any breastfeeds yet - still feeds about 3 hourly. If you feed on demand you can just take your baby's lead.

I also tend to offer him some of what I'm having if I eat something suitable during the day - so he shared some toast with me this afternoon. I'll probably start offering hm something at breakfast soon too.

Nope not stupid at all...I was a bit like that..its the fear of the unknown!! Grin. You'll be fine, Breastfeeding seemed far easier at the time to me than starting to wean as I'd got the hang of it and knew what to do.

I started at 25 weeks and did BLW.

Just offered what we were having in stick form.

DS first had steamed carrot sticks and cucumber. We did mostly fruit and veg for first week then I got brave and just gave him whatever we were having!!

We started with 2 meals then progressed to 3 after we had moved his bedtime, got the hang of it and felt it was right.

Just keep on breastfeeding as you do now - my DS didn't drop any until 9 months.

It will feel like all you do is feed initially but it doesn't last.

Good luck. Lots of good advice here on mumsnet when you need it Smile
