Non spoon breakfast ideas!

KenDoddsDadsDog · 17/01/2011 14:55

My one year old DD is currently refusing all spoons but she is not yet at the stage where she manages to feed herself with enough.
At breakfast time she's a bit too hungry and therefore grumpy, to try to feed herself and is refusing cereal, yoghurt, porridge etc.
The current fallback is toast and fruit but I'm concerned that she then has toast at nursery sometimes, therefore too much salt.
Any ideas of other things I can try that are finger foods and quite quick to make?
Thanks in advance.

I did BLW weaning my DS, and the thing that seemed to be very popular with BLWers is porridge pancakes.

instructions here

Give these a try?

You could also try making fruity flapjacks as well with lots of oats, dried and fresh fruit (bananas are good), just go easy on the sugar.

Shredded wheat bitesize (or sainsburys own if you boycott nestle). A bit if milk then microwave for 20 secs. They go soft enoughto eat but keep shape well enough to pick up individually. Or the weetabix bitesize. On Aitch's blw website their is a recipe for porridge cake that is good or other similar.

You can buy salt free bread, but FYI there is salt in cereals too. so all in all I wouldn't be concern about salt in bread for a baby (they actually need some salt)

The link below is a link on Aitch's blog.

Loads of great recipe ideas on there.

If it is for variety
crepes, pancakes,
polenta, sticky rice and semolina can make "cakes" too (same as porridge)
Any dry cereals as finger food.

Boiled egg and toast soldiers
Eggy bread
Pancakes
Pieces of cereal
Fresh fruit with yoghurt ( as a dip)
Banana bread
Drop scones
