BLW introducing seafood

The raw prawns are in the freezer waiting.... but something is holding me back!
DD is 6 1/2 m and has been attacking food for about 4 weeks now. It's going down a storm!

DH has severe hayfever so I know DD can be at risk of problems. However, bread and eggs have been fine.

When did you bring in seafood? Did it go OK? Should I have the phone at the ready??

I'm vege and DD will not be eating meat, but I'd like her to like and have fish. I can't stand the stuff!

There is no reason to wait, if she is going to have a reaction (which is unlikely) it will have to happen sooner or later.

I'm veggie but feed DD fish too. We haven't had any problems and she hasn't turned her nose up at anything yet.

Watch out for the nappies afterwards. DD's were green and explosive the day after she had fish for the first time. But her tummy seems to have adjusted now.

DS had prawns at about 6.5 months. Absolutely no problems, and he really enjoyed them.

One bit of advice I was given that helped me whenever I was feeling unsure was that if I was worried about a possible allergic reaction to a new food, I could always introduce said food at a time when I knew the doctor or hospital would be quiet, eg a weekday lunchtime rather than a Saturday evening. It sounds silly, but it helped me feel a little more in control.

My brother had a violent allergy to shellfish - whole face swelled up, eyes swollen shut etc so I was cautious and left it until a year old - and was like browneyesblue - did it at home near the A&E - not on a beach miles from any help. But DD1 and DS were fine and have no allergies at all so was a lot more relaxed with DD2 - have no idea when she first tried a prawn. Probably grabbed one of her brother's at about 5 months. All three of them ADORE prawns and DD1 (age 6) loves mussels, crab, cockles - the lot. DS (age 5) even chooses a pot of prawns over ice cream by the beach in summer. For my brother eggs and shellfish had the same reaction but he has outgrown them now (aged 37) and eats as many prawns as he can to make up for lost time.

WIll you let her have meat if you don't have to prepare it? Or if she asks for some when she's older? Just interested after a big chat about this earlier this evening. My nephews were brought up veggie but both (12 and 14) now eat meat with enthusiasm - just not at home. Their parents are very liberal so let them try it when they asked and are fine with them eating it if they choose to.

Thanks everyone. Tues lunchtime is now planned for prawns!

KittyFoyle.. I'll be happy for her to have meat is she asks for it when she is old enough to know what it is etc. If, like your nephews, she gets to 13 and decides she wants to eat meat then that will be fine but not at home.
