I missed my 'a guide to weaning session' (bad mummy emoticon) and now realise that the advice is different to when I weaned DD five years ago. I've been looking through the weaning threads but can anyone give me a simplified version of what is recommended these days? I don't know anything about BLW. It was all purees with DD.

www.rapleyweaning.com/

The BLW cornerstone text is by Gill Rapley...

I bought that and the 101 Best Baby Purees book - we tried both. As a result my DS can put food in his own mouth but he accepts a spoon too. Success!

Thank you that looks interesting. Can I ask when you started weaning?

FWIW, I started weaning my DD at 6 months with BLW, but in real life I think the vast majority still do purees - so if you want to do that then that's fine too.

EBF or EFF until 6 months is recommended for all but a few babies.

I started at 5.5 months, on the advice of my paed. It was hit and miss at first. I made the rice goop too gluggy to begin with and was kindly informed by my mother that it needs to be very watery to begin with.

He was quite suspicious of the whole eating thing at first. We only made headway when he saw me eating his food and he wanted to lick it off the container. Recipe for mess.

Clearspring do organic fruit purees which are fantastic when weaning. They don't contain added sugar.

Making your own pureed fruit is a right pain and it doesn't taste that great. Well, mine didn't! Now I cook pretty much everything for him.

Official weaning guidelines are here. They haven't changed in 8 years.

Thank you all. Plenty to think about there.
