Constipation 7 month old

Seems like only yesterday I was posting about collic - now we are on to a new problem.

Ever since I started weaning (at 5 and a half months) my DD has had trouble with very hard poo. Phoned HV (at about 6 months) and she said because she was actually pooing it was not classed as constipation so not to worry.

A few more weeks have passed now though and she is still doing little hard poos and sometimes she can do up to 8 a day! They don't seem to bother her at all though, she doesn't cry in pain just a lot of straining.

She is FF (aptamil) and 70/30 packet food (Ella, Hipp & Plum) vs homemade. Tried prunes in her porridge, weetabix for roughage, water from a sippy cup (but she doesn't take very much). Next thing to try is Aptamil comfort milk which is supposed to help.

Should I take her to the doctors? Any other suggestions?

Hi, we have the same here.

I'm no expert but I read that the following are given to weaning babies for diorhea.
*Banana
*Apple
*Rice
*Toast

I also noticed early on when DD started having issues with apples and constipation and bananas with tummy cramps that nearly all the Ellas Kitchen pouches have apple, banana or rice in them as a major ingredient.

Have asked my GP about constipation today and he recommended trying BLW, his reasoning being that they tend to have more balanced amounts of the several foods offered instead of it being determined by 'Ellas Dad' or whoever.

Was a bit Hmm but it may help?

Have also heard very weak fennel tea can help but haven't tried it)

Update - tried everything - took her to the Doctors. He gave her Lactalose at first which had no effect and now she is on Senacot which is doing the trick.

Along with that I am also cooking all her food which is a bit time consuming but cheaper and also seems to help because as you say, lots of packet foods have rice and banana in that blocks them up.

have you tried clementines? They unblocked my DD when I started weaning her. Was recommended by HV to give orange juice but didn't want to give her anything but water so went for clementines which did the trieck and she absolutely loves them although i do ration them carefully as a) they have an explosive effect and b) Annabel Karmel says to avoid citrus fruits at first. Also have you tried soaked dired apricots? How much water is your LO having?
