Weaning problems - help!

On advice we started weaning our baby at around 18 weeks. This was 3 weeks ago. We have taken things very slowing and he has a few spoonfuls of veg puree at lunchtime and then a couple of spoonfuls of fruit puree and baby cereal at supper time. He still has all his breastmilk feeds. He was absolutely fine for the first 2-3 weeks, but this week he has suddenly become very cranky and has started doing 4-5 poos a day, some of which are almost like water. He has also done a poo in the middle of the night for the last 5 nights. He has never done this before! In addition, his cheeks are bright red and he is chewing his hands all the time. I am worried the runny poos are something to do with the purees and cereal...but then I have heard that this could be a sign of teething...can anyone help? I am completely torn - he loves the food and until this week has shown no other problems with it. His cheeks are very red in the morning but go down a bit by lunchtime and then they are red again in the afternoon. Any experience anyone? I am so worried about the watery poos :( Thank you so much

It sounds like he might be teething and /or have a tummy upset, i'd ease right back on the food and concentrate on getting pletny of fluid into him... is he breast or formula fed? 18 weeks is quite early for solids, they are nto really necessary , unless there are pressing reasons for introducing food early

DD had very watery poos when teething but was much older and it was obviously her teeth.

Are you sure he doesn't have a bug? Does he have a temp?

Why were you advised to wean early?

Could you try stopping the solids and seeing if it helps? Or is there a reason why it has to be started this early?

Sorry to ask more questions, it's hard without a full picture.

Hi there
Thanks for the responses...we are weaning due to sick/reflux issues and large baby! However, something occurred to me last night, that the watery poos started the day after I began antibiotics. Our little one had big wind problems when I was on 4 rounds of antibiotics after he was born, so I am actually starting to wonder if this is the root of the problem!
