Just started DD on baby rice on saturday - very exciting!! . She has taken to it very well. So well I think she would prbably take another teaspoon of it if I offered it to her. Should I give her more or should I hold off. When can you increase? it is difficult to find info for babies being weaned close to 6 months.

one more query - after giving dd her night feed at 10pm last night she fell asleep again as normal but then woke half an hour later crying for something - very abnormal. DH and I tried everything (nappy change, gripe water, checked temp etc) finally I fed her again plus a top up of formula and this sent her to sleep. Can't believe she was still hungry! Growth spurt or funny reaction to weaning. Gave her Baaby rice at 11am. Sorry this is so long

Hi, I started weaning DS at 6months 3 weeks ago and had the same trouble (not a lot of info out there). Got chatting to health visitor who has been excellent. You can increase the amount given quite a bit now and also you can go onto foods pushed through a sieve rather than pureed. DS didn't like baby rice so I started him off on sieved carrott for three days then potato for 3 then mixed the two together with a little of his milk so it was 'wet'. Once he got the hang of that I introduced weetabix for breakfast then something for tea at around 5ish. Yesterday he started having 3 meals a day, Breakfast then a fruit meal at lunch and a proper dinner at tea time with a formula feed before he goes to bed. This is going really well at the moment and he isn't waking at all after we put him down between 7.30-8.30. You can now give cows milk in food, full fat yoghurts, cheese, bread etc.
Sorry to ramble !

Can't really help as didn't do the baby rice thing at all - mashed fruit/veg plus bit of things to chew on from start I am afraid.

I kinda went for the 'they will stop when they don't want anymore and if it is too much the worst that can happen is they will be sick theory' so in that vein I woudld say give her a bit more if she is interested.

No idea on your final point I am afraid - who knows. Whenever we introduce/do something different it gets the blame for any change in routine and TBH we never really know wahat cause it.

You'll be pleased I have replied with nothing at all helpful then. Sorry .

Gomez - that was helpful!! thank you. It's nice just to have the support

cheekymonkey - Very helpful too. I enjoy a good ramble!! . When did you go from 1 meal to 2 to 3 a day?

The first week he had 1 meal at his 11ish feed then about 7-10 days later started breakfast and tea for about two weeks and he has just started on three meals. All done under advice from HV as I thought this was a little quick but as he is 6 months it all moves quite quickly !
As well as his meals I have given finger foods such as banana, toast, pear. I too have fed him until he refuses to open his mouth - he presses lips together and turns head away once he has had enough . He is reducing his formula himself.
Getting quite good at rambling now
